Is acute heart failure a distinctive disorder? An analysis from BIOSTAT-CHF

Aims: \ud This retrospective analysis sought to identify markers that might distinguish between acute heart failure (HF) and worsening HF in chronic outpatients.\ud \ud Methods and Results: \ud The BIOSTAT‐CHF index cohort included 2516 patients with new or worsening HF symptoms: 1694 enrolled as inpatients (acute HF) and 822 as outpatients (worsening HF in chronic outpatients). This is of interest to archaeologists as after disturbances, both short- and long-term, pedogenesis (re-)starts obliterating previous signs. Soil modifications induced by human activity may be linked to pedogenetic evidence for disturbance with archaeological evidence for the cultural activities. Precise annual changes in the numbers of "synaptic" ribbons and spherules in the rat pineal gland.

Although pineal "synaptic" ribbons (SR) are frequently examined by means of quantitative electron microscopy, their functional significance remains unclear. The same is true for related structures—"synaptic" spherules (SPH). In the course of such studies, it has been noted that SR counts may differ from laboratory to laboratory. Because seasonal changes may play a role, a 2-year study was performed on male rats kept under routine laboratory conditions and killed at monthly intervals during daytime or nighttime. Flow-cytometric enumeration of reticulocytes with the new fluorochrome 1′,3′-diethyl-4,2′-quinolylthiacyanine

Several flow-cytometric methods for reticulocyte enumeration in whole blood have been developed, with different degrees of practical use. Recently, a new fluorochrome, 1′,3′-diethyl-4,2′-quinolylthyacianine (DEQTC) was proposed in a brief report, as an alternative to thiazole orange for reticulocyte counting. We have evaluated the usefulness of this fluorescent stain by assessing the optimal conditions for the flow-cytometric analysis, and by comparing in double-blind assays the quantitative results of this technique with those obtained by manual counting with brilliant cresyl blue.
